The UTORvpn service provides a UofT IP address for general on-campus access to resources. See the Related Articles section at the bottom of this article for information on the UTORvpn VPN service.
Ensure you have downloaded and installed the Cisco Secure Mobility Client on your device. (Note: This may also be known as Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. The client name updated to Cisco Secure Mobility Client in June of 2025). See the Related Articles section at the bottom of this article for details on how to install Cisco Secure Mobility Client.
3. Check that the address listed is “general.vpn.utoronto.ca” (you may need to select it from the dropdown or type it in) and click Connect.
4. Check that the Group listed is “UofT Default”. If you need all VPN traffic route via VPN, select “UofT Full” instead. Enter your UTORid and UTORid password, then press "OK".
5. Secure Client will show a green checkmark once connected.
You now have a secure Internet connection. Your regular Internet connection may show as “No Internet” while you are using the VPN; check AnyConnect to determine the status of your connection. Your computer will be assigned an IP address in the 100.98.128.X or 100.98.0.X ranges.
Usage note: Disconnect promptly from the VPN after you have finished using it.
Open the Cisco Secure Mobility Client and click the Disconnect button. You will go back to using your regular Internet connection.
