Introduction
The Syllabi module in CIS allows instructors to submit their course's marking scheme and syllabus to their department for review.
- The Syllabus & Important Dates tab contains important course and session dates, as well as the marking scheme and syllabus submission forms. The forms are split into three steps, each outlined below.
- The Statements & Basic Course Information tab contains the required, recommended, and optional Faculty and University policy statements.

Access the Syllabi Module
- On your My Courses home page, click on the Syllabi tab.
- Click the status link to the right of the desired course.
Marking Scheme
The Marking Scheme step allows you to fill out your course's assessments and late penalty policy.
- Enter the name, percentage, due date(s), and type for each assessment in your course, including the final exam (if applicable). While you are completing this step, your Faculty's grading policies will be shown in the sidebar on the left and will dynamically update as data is entered.
- To include additional assessments, click the Add Another link at the bottom of the section. To reorder, duplicate, delete, or add a note for a particular assessment, click the More Actions link to the right of an assessment.
- If applicable, include your policy on late submissions and any other additional notes in the text boxes at the bottom.
- If you would like to export a copy of the assessments you entered, click the Get a Copy of Your Marking Scheme button, and then click the Copy to Clipboard button in the pop-up. You can then paste this information in the syllabus document you are working on.
- Click Save & Continue to save your data and move on to the next step.
Course Experience & Syllabus
The Course Experience & Syllabus step allows you to indicate whether your course offers a particular type of learning experience, if any, and upload your course's syllabus document. Learn more about the Course Experience Tagging process here.
- If applicable, review and select a Course Experience Sub-Type that is most relevant for your course.
- If available, you can download a copy of your Faculty's syllabus template to get you started.
- If needed, you may also review the required, recommended, and optional course policy statements provided by your Faculty by clicking on the Statements & Basic Course Information tab at the top.
- Finalize your course syllabus on your computer and save it as a PDF.
- Click the Select Document button and browse your computer for the syllabus PDF you created.
- Click Save & Continue to upload your syllabus to CIS and move on to the next step.
Summary & Submission
The Summary & Submission step allows you to confirm the data you have entered prior to submitting it to your department.
- Review the information shown to ensure your submission is accurate. Take note of any warnings shown in the marking scheme section.
- To make corrections, click on any of the steps in the sidebar on the left.
- After corrections have been made, return to the Summary & Submission step and click the Submit to Department for Review button.
- A confirmation pop-up will display any outstanding warnings.
- Click the Yes, Submit to Department for Review button to confirm your Syllabi module submission for the current course.
Change Requests
Your administrative staff may occasionally send you a request to make changes to your submission. Find out more about viewing and replying to Change Requests here.
