Sync allows users to synchronize content (document, folders, libraries) to their computers. By default, sync is on, but if you have important, confidential files, you might want them only in the cloud.
Sync is the most likely entry point for malware or ransomware, so minimize your risk by disabling it on critical libraries. You can disable it for the whole site or on a library by library basis.
NOTE: Starting in July 2026, some older Sharepoint and OneDrive links shared with external recipients may stop working if the recipient previously accessed the content using an email passcode. If this happens, the recipient may see an "Access Denied" message.
