Configuring and Troubleshooting the OneDrive Sync Client

Configuring and Troubleshooting the OneDrive Sync Client

REMINDER: The OneDrive Sync client establishes a live, real-time connection to your OneDrive and/or selected SharePoint libraries. It is not a local copy. Any changes made, including deletions, are directly applied and updated on the server.

Windows

Installation and Set Up

When OneDrive is launched, enter your email address. You will be redirected to sign in to enter your U of T credentials.

Managing your OneDrive files

Once you have completed the set up, your personal OneDrive will exist on your computer as a sync'd drive. The Drive is named OneDrive-University of Toronto. You may add, create, or delete files and folders as you please. Changes will be synced between your local mapped client and online.

You may access your OneDrive by clicking on the OneDrive (blue cloud) icon (bottom right hand corner of your desktop screen).

Mac

Signing into Your O365 Account on OneDrive

You can access your OneDrive App by typing OneDrive into the spotlight query that every Mac OS interface has.

Once you have launched the OneDrive client, enter your U of T email and sign in with relevant credentials.

Setting Up Your OneDrive

Once the setup process has been initiated, select a location for your OneDrive folder (i.e. a folder that OneDrive will create to store all your OneDrive files locally).

Once you have selected your desired location, you can select which OneDrive folders you want to sync to your computer.

Managing your OneDrive files

Once you have completed the set up, your personal OneDrive space will exist on your computer as a sync'd drive. You may add, create, or delete files and folders as you please. Changes will be synced between your local client and online.

You may access your OneDrive by clicking on the OneDrive icon (a cloud symbol at the top right-hand corner of your screen).

Additionally, it will also exist in Finder as a folder called OneDrive-University of Toronto.

Stopping Sync

In the event where you no longer wish for files to be synced between your local desktop, you may decouple any of the existing library syncing by adhering to the following steps. It is crucial that you stop syncing and/or unlink folders or libraries before you remove them. If you do not stop syncing first, then you risk deleting the live copy.

Windows 7/10

  1. Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon (bottom right of your screen).
  2. Select Settings > Account tab.
  3. To unsync your personal OneDrive, select Unlink this PC and Unlink account. To unsync SharePoint libraries, select Stop sync beside the desired libraries.

A local copy of the unsynced library is stored on your computer and it can be deleted without impacting the library in the SharePoint site.

Mac

  1. Click the OneDrive cloud icon (top right of your screen).
  2. Click Preferences > Account tab.
  3. Unlink this MAC to stop syncing your personal files and permanently turn syncing off. To unsync SharePoint libraries, select Stop sync beside the desired libraries.

A local copy of the unsynced library is stored on your computer and it can be deleted without impacting the library in the SharePoint site.
