Troubleshoot opening a file from SharePoint that is blank in an Office desktop app
There are two possible causes:
- You must be signed into the Office apps, SharePoint, and OneDrive using your @utoronto.ca email address, not UTORcsi account. ​Users may be automatically signed out from an application, especially when the user switches between credentials on their desktop.
- The URL file path limit has been exceeded. This happens if the document is buried in a nested folder structure. For more details on this, see the related article.
Troubleshooting
Have you been prompted repeatedly to sign in to an app? It is likely you are being signed out automatically.
If you are signed in with an account other than @utoronto.ca, your credentials will be invalid and you will not be able to work with the document. To check:
- Open the Office app you want to use.
- In the top right corner, select your name.
- If you are not signed in with your @utoronto.ca account, Sign out and Sign in with the correct account.
