Back up email messages using Outlook's In-Place Archiving

Introduction

If you are using most of the space allotted to you in your personal mailbox, Microsoft 365's In-Place or Online Archive is a good way of cleaning up your mailbox while still retaining archived messages.

Note: This archive works on Outlook desktop clients and mail.utoronto.ca only. Those using Apple Mail and Thunderbird will be unable to see/access their archive.

What is the In-Place Archive?
 - A separate space outside of your regular mailbox.
 - Once turned on, the In-Place Archive will automatically archive messages older than 2 years.
 - It retains the same folder structure as your regular mailbox, so no need to sort messages.
 - Shows up on the web as a separate mailbox, and shows up in Outlook in the folder list but with a different icon.

Staff and faculty who do not see the In-Place Archive feature on their personal UTmail+ account can request this feature in the Enterprise Service Centre (ESC) by submitting a ticket to the Help Desk, choosing Software as the category.
