Introduction
You can attach files from your computer, OneDrive, or other storage accounts to email messages and calendar events and share them with others. You can also embed pictures in your email messages and calendar events.
Here are additional details for sending, receiving and editing email attachments in Outlook via OneDrive.
- Send: When you go to attach a file, you can:
- Browse your computer and attach the file, and then upload it to OneDrive.
- Browse your cloud files and attach a OneDrive file that way.
- Receive and edit:
- When a colleague sends a OneDrive email attachment to you via OneDrive, you can collaborate with the sender and other people who were sent the document in real-time. You can either do this by editing the document directly in your Outlook window or by opening the document in OneDrive.
- Note: If you attached a file from your computer and do not upload it to OneDrive, everyone you email will get their own individual copy and you will not be able to edit collaboratively.
- Tip: You don’t have to go through your inbox to keep track of all the OneDrive attachments you are collaboratively working on. Simply go to OneDrive via the web and open the Attachments folder.
Attach files in Outlook Web Access (OWA) from OneDrive
You can also share a file from OneDrive. This way, your recipients can collaborate on it in real-time.
Note: The attachment size limit for OneDrive files is 2GB.
- At the bottom of a message or calendar event, select the attach icon, then Browse cloud locations.
- Choose the file or folder you want to share and select Next. Double-click folders to open them.
- Select Share as a OneDrive link.
- Choose if people can edit the file or only view it. Select the down arrow icon, and then select Manage Access.
Attach files in Outlook for desktop from OneDrive
When you attach a file from your computer, you're attaching a copy of the file. Each recipient will get their own copy of the file.
Note: The attachment size limit for local files is 34 MB.
- At the bottom of a message or calendar event, select the attach icon, then Browse this computer.
- Choose the local file you want to attach and select Open.
