Get a UTORid (students, faculty, staff and guests)


New students

In your acceptance package, you will receive information about your student number and JOINidYour JOINid gives you limited access to a few online resources. For access to all of U of T's online services, you will need to activate your UTORid once you have accepted your invitation and have registered. Your UTORid gives you access to Library and other online resources, WiFiand creation of your UTmail+ account.    

Visit the TCard office website to learn how to get your TCard and UTORid. You will be given  a secret activation key and instructions on activating your UTORid. 

New staff and faculty

If you are staff or faculty hired by U of T (as opposed to one of the federated colleges), contact your departmental business officer to get a UTORid and a Secret Activation Key (SAK).

Staff and faculty of federated colleges

If you are a staff or faculty member of one of the federated colleges you will have to visit the business officer in your college to obtain your UTORid. Your business officer has a tool that allows him/her to upload you to our central database and retrieve a UTORid and Secret Activation Key (SAK).

Current students

All students who are already part of U of T and did not get a UTORid should contact their registrar. 

Current staff and faculty

All staff and faculty who are already part of U of T and did not get a UTORid should contact their business officer or department manager. 

Contractors, temporary staff/faculty, visiting professors

If you fall into one of these categories (and do not appear in HRIS), the department you are working for should apply for a long-term guest UTORid.

Short-term visitor

If you are a visitor who requires a UTORid for a period of five days or less, you can be sponsored by a staff or faculty member for a short-term guest UTORid.

The sponsoring U of T member can sponsor a UTORid using the Guest UTORid form.

Alumni

NOTE: Alumni UTORids can only be used for email purposes as outlined in our article about email services for alumni.

When you became a student at the University of Toronto, you should have been given a UTORid.

If you are an alumnus/alumna and you do not have a UTORid, you can get one by creating a UTORid at the UTORid management website. You will need your library number and student number. Under First Time Users, click on Create your UTORid and follow the steps on the pages that appear.

Postgraduate Medical Education

If you are part of the PGME program, you can activate your UTORid by retrieving your UTORid and activation key through POWER. If you are unable to locate your UTORid and SAK within POWER, contact the POWER Help Desk at power.help@utoronto.ca. If a TCard is required for physical access to a library, or other on-campus activities, visit the TCard Services website for more information.
