In your acceptance package, you will receive information about your student number and JOINid. Your JOINid gives you limited access to a few online resources. For access to all of U of T's online services, you will need to activate your UTORid once you have accepted your invitation and have registered. Your UTORid gives you access to Library and other online resources, WiFi, and creation of your UTmail+ account.
Visit the TCard office website to learn how to get your TCard and UTORid.
If you are staff or faculty hired by U of T (as opposed to one of the federated colleges), contact your departmental business officer to get a UTORid.
If you are a staff or faculty member of one of the federated colleges you will have to visit the business officer in your college to obtain your UTORid. Your business officer has a tool that allows them to upload you to our central database.
All students who are already part of U of T and did not get a UTORid should contact their registrar.
All staff and faculty who are already part of U of T and did not get a UTORid should contact their business officer or department manager.
If you fall into one of these categories (and do not appear in HRIS), the department you are working for should apply for a long-term guest UTORid.
If you are a visitor who requires a UTORid for a period of five days or less, you can be sponsored by a staff or faculty member for a short-term guest UTORid.
The sponsoring U of T member can sponsor a UTORid using the Guest UTORid form.
NOTE: Alumni UTORids can only be used for email purposes as outlined in our article about email services for alumni.
If you are part of the PGME program, you can activate your UTORid by retrieving your UTORid through POWER. If you are unable to locate your UTORid within POWER, contact the POWER Help Desk at power.help@utoronto.ca. If a TCard is required for physical access to a library, or other on-campus activities, visit the TCard Services website for more information.
