UTORGrouper: Turn off Automapping for a shared mailbox

Automapping is enabled by default for Shared Mailboxes. There may be instances where it is more desirable to have Automapping disabled – for example, if you would like to set up the Shared Mailbox as your default or primary mailbox in Outlook. Doing this also resolves some issues with sent mail and deleted items folders, signatures, out of office settings and mail merges.

To disable automapping:

  1. Log into utorgrouper.utoronto.ca.

  2. Click My groups. Under Groups I manage, click on the FullWithCompose group (For a description of the different groups, see the article Shared Mailbox permission levels)
  3. Find the member you would like to remove automapping for and remove them from this group.
  4. Go back to My groups, and under Groups I manage, click on the FullWithComposeNoAutoMap group.
  5. Click Add Member.
  6. Type the email address or UTORid of the person you would like to add. Choose their name from the dropdown. Please note that if you accidentally click somewhere other than on the name, you may have to delete the contents of the search field and retype it.
Please note that group names currently include the Shared Mailbox ID in parentheses at the end. On October 28, the parentheses will be replaced with square brackets. These characters should NOT be included in any mailbox search you do.

  8. Instructions are available under the section Opening a Shared Mailbox on the Shared Mailboxes page. Please wait 1 hour, then restart your Outlook client or log into mail.utoronto.ca to access the mailbox.
