When you create a new project through Microsoft Project, you want to ensure that you create it through the Project Web App (PWA) and not the Project interface. This will link your new project directly to your PWA site and make it easy to navigate to from the Microsoft Project home page.
1. Before you create a new project, you will need to request a Project Web App (PWA) site. To request a PWA site, submit a request at https://uoft.me/getsite or contact your local IT support.
2. When your PWA site is created, you will be able to access it through a URL (e.g. https://utoronto.sharepoint.com/sites/EASI-pwa). Make sure you know what this URL is when you create your first project.
Note: Don’t access the URL until after you’ve updated the Project Online link in Step 7. The SharePoint administrator will have to recreate the site for the PWA owner to update the Project Online link in Step 7.
3. Go to mail.utoronto.ca. Launch Microsoft Project from the waffle menu.
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the web page. Click on Go to Project Online.
5. Scroll back up to the top of the page. You should see the following notice at the top of the page:
6. Click Change Default. You will be prompted to enter the URL of your PWA site. Paste the URL into the box. When you’ve done this, click Change site.
7. This will launch your PWA site. From this site, click Create or import projects.
8. This will launch a new page. Select Enterprise Project.
9. You can now click next and continue with the project creation steps. Enter the project’s details (i.e. Name, start date, owner) into the fields and select Finish.
10. When you want to access your projects again, you just need to go back to the Microsoft Project homepage (the page you land on from the waffle menu). Access your projects from the Recent list or scroll to the bottom of the page and click Go to Project Online.
