When you create breakout rooms for your Teams meeting, Teams provides you with settings that will let you determine attendees' experiences in joining and leaving their assigned breakout rooms.
The first setting you will see is Assign presenters to manage rooms. This option is toggled off by default.
Turn it on and select a presenter to give an additional person the ability to manage breakout rooms during your meeting. You can select multiple presenters.
The second setting you will see is Set a time limit. This option is toggled off by default.
When you set a time limit, a timer is visible in each breakout room so that participants are aware of when the session will end. When time is up, the rooms close and participants return to the main meeting.
Note: If you turn off the Automatically move people to rooms setting, participants will have the option of returning to the main meeting or leaving the meeting when time is up.
The third setting you will see is Automatically move participants to rooms. This option is toggled on by default.
When the setting is on, participants will be automatically moved into breakout rooms when you click Start rooms. When you toggle this option off, participants receive a message asking them to join a breakout room. They need to select Join room before being moved.
The last option is Participants can return to the main meeting. This setting is toggled off by default.
When this setting is off, a participant can choose to leave their assigned breakout room and return to the main meeting at any time. When you toggle this option on, the participant will not be able to return to the main meeting until the meeting organizer has closed the breakout room.
