Set up your new U of T alumnimail account


If you are a new graduate of the University of Toronto, you will be offered the opportunity to open an alumni email account ending in @alumni.utoronto.ca.   

PLEASE NOTE: At this time, we are not accepting requests for new alumni emails except for graduates from the current calendar year.

Note: OneDrive access is only available for those with active student, staff, or faculty affiliation. OneDrive access is separate from email access. As such, OneDrive access may be removed before your mailbox is decommissioned. If you have not yet backed up your OneDrive data, we recommend you do so. The login page for your new U of T alumni account is: https://alumnimail.utoronto.ca.

Sign in for the first time

During these steps, you will need to have access to the alternate email address you provided when requesting the account. During this process, you will need to set a password and set up account recovery information the first time you log in.

  1. Go to https://alumnimail.utoronto.ca
  2. Click on "Can't access your account?", then choose "Work or school account"

  3. Enter your new alumnimail email address, then in the next field, enter the characters in the Captcha displayed on the page and click Next.

  4. In the next screen, make sure the option to “Email my alternate email” is selected. 

5. Click Email.
6. Enter the code sent to your alternate email address and click Next. The message will have come from “Microsoft on behalf of University of Toronto - Alumni Email Service”.
7. Choose a new password and confirm that password to get into your new account. You will need to click on the link in the next screen to be returned to the login page.

8. In the next step, you will be asked to set up password reset options. Click Next.



9. There are 3 methods you can use to set up your self-serve password reset options.

Option A: Set up the your mobile phone to receive a reset password code

  1. You will  be prompted to "Install Microsoft Authenticator." Select "Other options."


  2.  Choose Phone from the pulldown menu and click Confirm.

  3. Enter your phone number and choose to receive the code via text or call. Click Next.



  4.  Enter the code and click Next.



  5.  In the final screen, click Done.

 

Option B: Set up the your alternate email to receive a reset password code

NOTE: Do not use your U of T student email as your alternate email address. This is not a valid recovery email address. 

  1. You will  be prompted to "Install Microsoft Authenticator." Select "Other options."






  2.  Choose Email from the pulldown menu and click Confirm.

  3. Enter your email address and click Next.




  4.  Enter the code and click Next.




  5.  In the final screen, click Done.


Option C: Set up the Microsoft Authenticator app

  1. Click Next if you want to use the Authenticator app.


  2. Download and install the Authenticator app following the instructions at the Google Play or Apple App Store.
  3. Open the app on your phone and tap Accept on the privacy statement.

3. When prompted, choose "Work or School Account."

 

4. In the next screen, you will see a popup asking for permission to collect additional data. Click "Continue."

  1. Add your alumni email and password information when prompted.

 

  1. You'll then be directed to finish setting up your account on the web. Visit aka.ms/mfasetup to continue the process.

 

  1. On your browser screen, you'll be prompted to add a sign-in method. Choose "Microsoft Authenticator."

 

12. Your browser will then display a QR code. On your phone, you'll see a screen prompting you to scan the QR code with your phone camera.
Open your phone camera and scan the code.


  1. After scanning, you may see a pop up requesting you to enable notifications. Select "Allow."


  1. Your browser will show a window generating a one-time code. 

  1. Enter the code when prompted in the Authenticator app on your phone.

  1. On your browser, you should see a window indicated Authenticator has been added to your account for signing in. Click Done.


Future alumni UTmail+ access

You are now ready to use your new alumni UTmail+ account.
