Download and add an iCalendar (.ics) event file to your Outlook calendar


Introduction

iCalendar (.ics) files are used by event organizers. An iCal file might be added to an email as an attachment, or to a website as an 'add to calendar' link. When you access an iCal link, you can quickly and easily add it to your Outlook calendar as an event.

Instructions

To add an iCal file to your desktop Outlook calendar, do the following:

  1. Locate the iCal file you would like to add to your Outlook calendar.
  2. Download the iCal file to your computer.
    1. From an Outlook email attachment: Save the iCal file to your computer.
    2. From a website: Click on the 'add to calendar' link. The file will automatically download to your computer.
  3. Locate the iCal file on your computer and open it.
  4. When you open the file, Outlook will launch the event in a new window.
  5. Click Save.
  6. The event will be added to your Outlook calendar.

To add an iCal file to your online Outlook calendar, do the following:

From an email attachment:

  1. Locate the iCal file in your online Outlook inbox.
  2. Click on the file.
  3. An event window will pop up.
  4. Click Add to calendar.
  5. The event will be added to your online Outlook calendar.

From a website link:

  1. Locate the iCal file you would like to add to your Outlook calendar.
  2. Download the iCal file to your computer by clicking on the 'add to calendar' link. The file will automatically download to your computer.
  3. Open your online Outlook calendar.
  4. Click Add calendar.
  5. From the Add calendar menu, click Upload from file.
  6. Browse your computer for the iCal file you would like to add to your calendar. Click Open when you have selected it.
  7. From the Select calendar menu, select the calendar that you would like to add the event to.
  8. Click Import.
  9. The event will be added to your online Outlook calendar.
