How To Manage Mobile Device Access for the StarRez Go Mobile App


Introduction

In this article, device management representatives will learn how to manage device access to the StarRez Go mobile app within StarRez Web. This includes enabling access within StarRez Web, renaming devices, and deleting devices from the system.  You can register and delete devices within StarRez Web.

Prerequisites 

  1. For new mobile users, request access to the StarRez Go app through the StarRez access form on ESC.
  2. Once the request is approved, users will be sent a PIN. This is required to log in to the app. 
  3. Confirm that users have an email associated with their StarRez account. This is important if users will be activating their mobile devices remotely by email. 
    • Admin (1)

    • Check the Email Address field (3)

For Device Management Representatives 

You can activate mobile devices to use the StarRez Go app by QR code or by email.  

  1. If you have access to the devices in person, it is easier to activate by QR code
  2. If you are activating devices remotely, it is easier to email users the activation code

A. Activating by QR code

  1. Download the StarRez Go app onto your mobile device. The app is compatible with Android and Apple devices. Your operating system should be updated to one of the last two major versions that have been released.
  2. Log into StarRez Web, go to:
    • Admin (1)
    • Mobile (2)
    • New Device (3)
    • A QR code will be generated
  3. On the mobile device, open the StarRez Go app and tap Get Started 
  4. Use the camera on the device to scan the QR code  
  5. When prompted, name the device in this format:
    • Individual devices: Abbreviation of Residence Name-UTORid-Device (e.g. WDW-doejohn-iPhone)
    • Shared devices: Abbreviation of Residence Name-Use-Device (e.g. WDW-DonOnCall-iPhone, INN-Maintenance-Samsung, CH-Housekeeping-Samsung)

B. Activating by email

  1. Identify users that require access to Housing App 
  2. Select your users under
    • Admin (1)
    • Users (2)
    • Select Users (3)
  3. Then, go to:
    • Actions (1)
    • Mobile Applications (2)
    • Send Device Registration Email (3)
  4. Have users follow the steps in the Device Registration email below

Setting up a PIN 

Users will require a PIN to log onto the app. Contact starrez.help@utoronto.ca if users do not have a PIN.


Device Registration Email

You have been invited to register your mobile device to use the StarRez Go mobile application. Follow these steps:

    1. Download the StarRez Go mobile application onto your mobile device.
    2. Open this device activation email on your mobile device, and open the activation link found at the bottom of this email. Copy the activation code.
    3. Open the StarRez Go mobile app. and select "Enter Activation Code". Paste the code and select "Register."
    4. When prompted, name your device using the following format:
      • Individual devices: Abbreviation of Residence Name-UTORid-Device (e.g. WDW-doejohn-iPhone)
      • Shared devices: Abbreviation of Residence Name-Use-Device (e.g. WDW-DonOnCall-iPhone, INN-Maintenance-Samsung, CH-Housekeeping-Samsung)
      • Abbreviations
        • CH  – Chestnut Residence 
        • GH – Graduate House 
        • INN – Innis College
        • LORETTO - Loretto College 
        • NEW – New College 
        • OH - Oak House
        • SE - Spaces and Experiences (general)
        • SMC - St Michael’s College 
        • TRIN - Trinity College 
        • UC - University College 
        • UFH - University Family Housing 
        • UTM – University of Toronto Mississauga 
        • UTSC – University of Toronto Scarborough 
        • VIC – Victoria College 
        • WDW – Woodsworth College 
    5. Once your device is registered, log into the app by selecting your name from the list of users. Enter your PIN when prompted. If you don't have a PIN, email starrez.help@utoronto.ca.
    6. You're finished!
