Teams Chat: Reply to a specific message


Introduction

In the Teams desktop and mobile apps, it is now possible to reply to a specific message in a 1:1, meeting or group chat. When you reply to a specific message, everyone in your chat will be able to see which message you have replied to.

Instructions

To reply to an individual message in a 1:1, meeting or group chat, do the following:

  1. In the Teams desktop app, hover your cursor over the message you would like to reply to. If you are using the mobile app, you can simply 'tap' the message.
  2. You will see a menu pop up. Click on the More options (three-dot) menu.

  3. A menu with more options will pop up. Select Reply.

  4. You will see a preview of the message you are replying to in the compose box. This preview indicates the specific message that you are replying to.
  5. Compose your message. When you are finished, click the Send (paper plane) icon to send your message.

  6. You have now replied to a specific message. When you see your message in the Teams chat, it will contain a preview of the message you are replying to and your reply.
