Designate a SharePoint page as a site's homepage


SharePoint sites have a default page upon creation. If you want to designate another page as a homepage, do the following:

Note: Full Control or admin level permissions are required. Contact a site owner or EASI if you can't perform the steps.

  1. Go to your site and add /SitePages to the end of the URL. Hit the Enter key.
    • i.e. https://utoronto.sharepoint.com/sites/abc123/SitePages
  2. Select the ellipses (...) beside the desired page > Make homepage.

Select the desired page to designate it as the new homepage of a SharePoint site

If a new homepage is needed or you want to switch back to a previous page, repeat the steps above.

Restore a site page

Note: Full Control or admin level permissions are required. Contact a site owner or EASI if you can't perform the steps.

If all site pages are deleted, you may see a 404 message when accessing a site's front page. To restore a page:

  1. Go to your site and add /SitePages to the end of the URL. Hit the Enter key.
    •  i.e. https://utoronto.sharepoint.com/sites/abc123/SitePages
  2. Select Recycle bin (on the left).
    • If you don't see the link, select the gear icon (top right corner) > Site contents > Recycle bin.
  3. Select the desired page and click Restore

The home page should now be accessible. You may have to follow the steps under Designate a SharePoint page as a site's homepage to select a page as the home.
