Add/edit captions and transcripts in a video


OneDrive and SharePoint 

  1. Go to your OneDrive/SharePoint library and click the video’s title to view it. The video will open in a video viewer. 
  2. Select Video settings (top right corner). 
    • You may have to play the video first to view the settings. 
  3. To enable transcript viewing, change the Transcript and captions toggle to On. 
  4. Select the down arrow to expand Transcript and captions. 
    • To automatically generate captions/a transcript, select Generate English. Select Refresh to check when it’s completed. 
      • To obtain a VTT file, you can download the generated transcript. Open it in Word, Notepad, etc. 
    • To include edited captions/a transcript, select Upload > Select file > select the file > Open > Done. 
      • Note: only VTT format is accepted. Follow step 4a to generate an editable file.

Caption Settings 

Captions don’t display by default and users must set up individually and manually before they appear in a video. 

  1. Go to your OneDrive/SharePoint library and click the video’s title to view it. The video will open in a video viewer. 
  2. Select CC (bottom right corner) to turn captions on or off. 
    • You may have to play the video first to view the settings. 
  3. To customize subtitles, select the gear icon (bottom right corner). 
    • Select Captions/Subtitles to either turn off captions or use autogenerated lines. 
    • Select Captions/Subtitles settings to format how captions are displayed.

View Transcript 

  1. Go to your OneDrive/SharePoint library and click the video’s title to view it. The video will open in a video viewer. 
  2. Select Transcript (top right corner) to view a copy. 
    • You may have to play the video first to view it.
