Microsoft 365 Licensing – Navigating the standard toolkit


Introduction

The standard toolkit provides U of T community members with access to a full range of online Microsoft 365 products. This article outlines how standard toolkit users can access online Microsoft tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Navigating the standard toolkit

Follow the instructions below to access Office applications from your work or personal computer.

Note about the Microsoft Campus and School Agreement

Standard toolkit users may be able to download and access the desktop versions of Office applications on their work computers via the University’s Microsoft Campus and School Agreement (CASA). Please contact your local IT support team to learn more or go to microsoft.utoronto.ca.

Access U of T email via Outlook online

To access your online University Outlook account, please follow these instructions:

  1. Log on to your computer.
  2. Open a supported browser such as Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  3. In your browser’s search bar, type in mail.utoronto.ca and press enter. If prompted, log in with your UTORid and password.
  4. Once you are logged in, you will be redirected to your online Outlook inbox where you will see all of your University email. If you like, you can bookmark this page to make it easy to return to.
  5. From your online Outlook inbox, you can start sending and receiving email and meeting invitations: no set up is required. For an overview of Outlook online and how to use it, see this guide from Microsoft: Get to know Outlook on the web.

Access online Office applications

The standard toolkit grants you full access to online version of Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This means that you can access your files from anywhere in the world with your computer and an internet connection. To access your Office applications, do the following:

  1. Go to mail.utoronto.ca and log in if prompted.
  2. Once you are logged in, you will land in your online Outlook inbox. From your inbox, click on the waffle icon in the top left corner.
  3. When you click on the waffle icon, your Microsoft app launcher will open. You will see a list of Office applications that you have access to, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You can also see a full list of applications you have access to by clicking All apps.
  4. To open Word, Excel or PowerPoint simply click on the app’s icon and the app will launch. To create a new document, spreadsheet or presentation, click on the New blank document/spreadsheet/presentation option.

Access your saved Office files
