Microsoft has adopted a service change affecting Copilot availability for M365 office applications for users without a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot premium license. 

What is changing 

• The Copilot icon in ribbon is now no longer available in: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. 
• Copilot Chat remains available to faculty, staff and students:  
  • • On the web at https://m365.cloud.microsoft/chat/ 
    • In the Microsoft 365 Copilot app 
    • In the Outlook app, including the inbox and calendar features 
    • In the Teams app 
• If you need Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote, a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required. (learn more)
