Introduction to Off-Campus Access (Working From Home)
Accessing UofT Resources Remotely
When you are off-campus (e.g. working from home or travelling abroad), you can still access UofT resources in a secure manner.
Many web-based resources are available to you over a regular Internet connection by logging in with your UTORid, password and UTORMFA. Examples include:
- Office 365 (mail.utoronto.ca): email + calendaring, Office Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint
- University of Toronto Libraries resources: find the resource using the library catalogue (library.utoronto.ca), and click on the web holdings
- Student tools: Quercus (q.utoronto.ca), ACORN (acorn.utoronto.ca)
- Research tools: My Research portal
- Employee Self-Service (ess.hrandequity.utoronto.ca)
These resources can be accessed from your own device; a UofT-owned laptop is not required.
If the Internet connection you are using is potentially insecure, such as when you are using a wifi connection provided by a coffee shop or other public place, use UofT’s UTORvpn service to protect your Internet traffic from being intercepted or surveilled.
Access to ROSI and AMS/SAP
To access ROSI (including ROSI Files and ROSI Express) and AMS systems such as HRIS and FIS, you will need to open a secure connection using the AdminVPN service (Not UTORvpn). Until November 27, 2021 you will need to have your eToken with you (don’t leave it at the office).
Access to Shared Drives and Remote Desktop
Your department may have implemented remote access solutions for your shared network drives and your full office workstation.
- Digital Workplace clients can access their workstations through the Digital Workplace Remote Desktop Service. Laptops managed by the Digital Workplace can have UTORcsi VPN installed for remote access to H: and I: drives.
- Employees of departments not included in the Digital Workplace should check with their local IT to determine how to access their shared drives, as well as their full workstations if needed.
Not sure if you are part of the Digital Workplace? See the full client list at https://easi.its.utoronto.ca/shared-services/managed-desktop/digital-workplace-divisions/.
Access to Other Restricted Resources
Some resources are restricted to on-campus networks or specific IP addresses, but they may have been configured to work over specific VPN connections as well. For example, UTORGrouper and the Licensed Software Office can be accessed via UTORvpn while off campus. Check with your local IT or the system administrators if you are unsure how to access the specific resources you need.
