Set up your new UT alumnimail account (UTORmail decommissioning)

If you are receiving a U of T alumni account as part of UTORmail decommissioning, you will be issued a new mailbox with an email address ending in @alumni.utoronto.ca. This mailbox will contain your old UTORmail content, and messages sent to your previous UTORmail @utoronto.ca address will be forwarded to your new alumni UTmail+ account until March 2022 or later.

The login page for your new U of T alumni account is: https://alumnimail.utoronto.ca.

Log in for the first time using your new @alumni.utoronto.ca email address (sent to you at your old @utoronto.ca address) and your initial temporary password, which can be found below. You will need to change your password and set up recovery information the first time you log in.

Get your initial temporary password

  1. Go to https://can.login.utoronto.ca/pwgenerator/ and log in with your UTORid and password.
  2. Once you have logged in, you will see a temporary password that you will use to set up your U of T alumni account. Copy this password so that you can use it to sign in for the first time.

Sign in for the first time

When you sign in for the first time, you will be asked to set a new password and your account security options for resetting your password if you forget it.

  1. Go to https://alumnimail.utoronto.ca
  2. Enter your new @alumni.utoronto.ca email address and click Next.

  1. Enter the temporary initial password you copied in the previous section and click Sign In.

  1. You will be asked to change your password in the next screen. Click Sign in once finished.

  2. In the next step, you will be asked to set up password reset options. Click Next.

  1.  There are 3 methods you can use to set up your self-serve password reset options.


Set up the your mobile phone to receive a reset password code

  1. Click on the link that says "I want to use a different method" in the bottom left corner of the window.

  2.  Choose Phone from the pulldown menu and click Confirm.

  3. Enter your phone number and choose to receive the code via text or call. Click Next.

  4.  Enter the code and click Next.

  5.  In the success screen, click Next.

  6.  In the final screen, click Done.

Set up the your alternate email to receive a reset password code

  1. Click on the link that says "I want to use a different method" in the bottom left corner of the window.

  2.  Choose Email from the pulldown menu and click Confirm.

  3. Enter your email address and click Next.

  4.  Enter the code and click Next.

  5.  In the success screen, click Next.

Set up the Microsoft Authenticator app

  1. Click Next if you want to use the Authenticator app.

  2. Open the app on your phone and tap I agree on the privacy statement.
  3. Click Add account, then choose Other.

  1. In the next screen, allow Authenticator to take a picture so you can scan the QR code provided on the web browser screen on your computer.

  1. On your web browser, click Next.

  1. Scan the QR code with your phone, then click Next.

  1. On your phone, you will see the App Lock message. Tap OK.

  1. You will then see the account appear in Authenticator on your phone.

  1. Tap to open it and get the 6-digit code.

  1. Go back to your computer and enter the code from your phone. Click Next.

Future alumni UTmail+ access

You are now ready to use your new alumni UTmail+ account.
