How to delete a user from an entire SharePoint site collection
Has a user in your site retired or moved on from their position? Need to offboard someone quickly from your entire site but your permissions are complex?
This article provides instructions to view a list of all of the users in your site collection and delete one or more of them from the entire site collection. Note: this will delete the person from the main site as well as all subsites, including any groups, sharing links, or limited access permissions.
Instructions
Provide step-by-step instructions:
- Log into your site with the site collection administrator role.
- Ensure that you are at the root site/top level of your site collection.
- Go up to the site URL and remove the site page information from the site path. For example, https://utoronto.sharepoint.com/sites/testsite/SitePages/Home.aspx becomes https://utoronto.sharepoint.com/sites/testsite/
- Now add the following path to the URL… _layouts/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0. In the example, the new URL would be: https://utoronto.sharepoint.com/sites/testsite/_layouts/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0
- Press enter to see the All People page. Find and select the user(s) you want to remove.
- Under Actions, click Delete User.
