Cisco Secure Client must be installed on devices that will be using the UTORvpn service.
Note: This client was previously known as Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. It underwent a name change in June 2025.
If you already have Cisco Secure Client installed on your device, you do not need to reinstall, unless you have an outdated version. If this is the case, your computer may auto-update to the latest version of this client.

The current recommended version is 5.1.6.103 or higher.
Installation overview
NOTE: You MUST have administrative privileges on the machine – if you are using a managed computer, ask your local IT to perform the install.
To install Cisco Secure Client for Windows, Mac, and Linux machines, click to download the appropriate client from U of T's Secure Client download site (login with your UTORid and password). Open or run the downloaded file to install it.
Cisco Secure Client for mobile devices is available by searching in the appropriate app store: Google Play Store for Android devices and Chromebooks, or the Apple App Store for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone).
Note: Once installed or updated, the Cisco Secure Client icon may look slightly different than the previous version. The appearance may vary depending on your computer or operating system. Here's an example of what the updated icon might look like in your dock:

Note that you must have administrative privileges to install Cisco Secure Client on your machine. If you are using a managed computer, ask your local IT to perform the installation.
- Login to UofT’s Secure VPN download site and login with your UTORid and password.
- Click on “Cisco Secure VPN Client Windows” to download the installation file. Open the downloaded .msi file to start the installation wizard.
3. Follow the prompts to accept the license agreement and complete the installation.

Note that you must have administrative privileges to install Cisco Secure Client on your machine. If you are using a managed computer, ask your local IT to perform the installation.
- Login to UofT’s Secure VPN download site (login with your UTORid and password).
- Click on the correct version of Cisco Secure VPN client MacOS Client to download the installation file.
- Open the downloaded .dmg file. This may require an administrator password.
- Double-click on “AnyConnect.pkg” to begin the installation.
- Click “Continue” and accept the licensing agreement.
- Uncheck all modules except "VPN" and click "Continue.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
Detailed installation instructions - Linux
Note that you must have administrative privileges to install Cisco Secure Client on your machine.
- Login to UofT’s Secure VPN download site (login with your UTORid and password).
- Under the Software Downloads heading, download the appropriate package for your Linux distribution.
- Navigate to your Downloads folder and extract the Cisco Secure Client tar.gz file to a directory.
- Navigate to the extracted directory. Right-click and choose Open In Terminal.
- Install the Cisco Secure Client package using your preferred package management application.
- Debian-based systems, such as Ubuntu:
sudo apt install ./cisco-secure-client-vpn-[version]_amd64.deb - Fedora-based systems, such as Red Hat:
sudo dnf install ./cisco-secure-client-vpn-[version].x86-64.rpm
- Debian-based systems, such as Ubuntu:
- Enter your password, then enter
ywhen prompted and the installation will complete.
