Connect to UTORvpn (Android, iOS)

The UTORvpn service provides a UofT IP address for general on-campus access to resources. See the Related Articles section at the bottom of this article for information on the UTORvpn VPN service.

Ensure you have downloaded and installed the Cisco Secure Mobility Client on your device. Note: This client may also appear as Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client in your system. The name was updated to Cisco Secure Mobility Client in June of 2025.

See the Related Articles section at the bottom of this article for details on how to install Cisco Secure Mobility Client.

Note: Once installed or updated, the Cisco Secure Client icon may look slightly different than the previous version named Cisco AnyConnect. The appearance may vary depending on your computer or operating system. Here's an example of what the updated icon might look like in your dock:

And here is what the new client may look like, once connected:

Initial Configuration Instructions

  1. Open the Cisco Secure Mobility app.
  2. If this is your first time opening the app, click “OK” to agree to the licensing agreement and allow AnyConnect to access your device.
    • If you are prompted by your device security manager, you do not need to authorize AnyConnect to make or receive phone calls.
    • You may be prompted to enable notifications – this is your personal preference and does not affect operation of the VPN.
  3. In the app, select “Connections” and then “Add New VPN Connection”.
  4. Input the following information:
    • Description: UTORvpn
    • Server address: general.vpn.utoronto.ca

(The Add New Connection interface: left, on Android; right, on iOS)

  5. Click Save or Done. If you are prompted to confirm adding a VPN connection, click “Allow”. You may also need to enter your device passcode to complete the configuration.

Connect to and Disconnect from UTORvpn

  1. Open the AnyConnect app and turn the AnyConnect VPN to “ON”.
  2. A new window will appear. The Group field should read “utorvpn”.
    • Enter your UTORid and associated password, then click “Connect”.

(The UTORvpn authentication interface: left, on Android; right, on iOS)

  3. When successfully connected, the Details field will read “Connected”.
  4. To disconnect from UTORvpn, open the AnyConnect app and turn the AnyConnect VPN to “OFF”.
