Introduction
The BME MEng Extended Full-Time (MEng EFT) Program is a new program option available to students as of Fall 2022.
Overview
The MEng EFT program is designed to spread out courses over 6 academic sessions, while allowing students to retain full-time student status for the duration.
Like the MEng Full-Time (MEng FT) program, the required course work includes 1.0 FCE in Commercialization courses, 2.0 FCEs in Biomedical Engineering courses, 1.0 FCE in graduate STEM elective courses and BME1899Y, 1.0 FCE. While, MEng FT students typically take BME1899Y in the summer session, MEng EFT students have considerable flexibility with regard to BME1899Y and can take the course whenever they secure an approved internship.
Students can self-enroll in 1.0 FCE per session via Acorn. Requests to take an additional 0.5 FCE in a single session will be reviewed on a case by case basis. A maximum of 3.5 FCE can be taken in one academic year.
The fee structure is designed so that the minimum degree fee for the BME MEng program is spread out over 2 years. If a student completes the program early, the balance of degree fees (Section 14.4.2) will apply.
Students cannot transfer into or out of the MEng EFT program, therefore prospective students apply to either the MEng Full-Time program or the MEng EFT program, or both, during IBME's admission cycle. Submitting a specific application for the MEng EFT program will ensure consideration.
The School of Graduate Studies strictly regulates EFT Program Studies. Students are urged to familiarize themselves with the SGS policies regarding EFT programs (Section 6.1.3).
