Introduction
When you create a meeting in Microsoft Teams, you can change the meeting policy settings to control whether groups of participants must wait in the lobby before they are admitted into the Teams meeting. Please read the instructions below to update lobby settings based on participant type.
Instructions
To change your meeting's lobby options you will need to access your meeting options. Follow these steps to find your meeting's options.
- Create a Teams meeting in your Outlook calendar.
- Open the meeting in your Outlook calendar.
- Scroll down to the section of the meeting information that gives the Teams meeting details and select Meeting options.
- A new window will launch. Click on the Who can bypass the lobby? dropdown menu to select your lobby setting (see section below for a description of each setting).
- When you have selected your setting, click Save to apply it to your meeting.
Lobby Settings
- Default setting (People in my organization and guests): By default, the lobby setting is 'People in my organization and guests'. This means that members of the University of Toronto community and trusted individuals with non-U of T email addresses can bypass the lobby. Please note that if this setting is selected callers will not be able to bypass the lobby.
- Everyone: Anyone who has access to the meeting link can enter the meeting directly, including people who call in.
- People in my organization and trusted organizations, and guests: People in your Teams org, external participants from trusted organizations, and guests can get into your meetings directly.
- People in my organization: Only people who are logged in with their University of Toronto email addresses will be able to bypass the meeting lobby.
- People I invite: Anyone who receives the invitation, including those to whom it's forwarded, will join the meeting directly. This doesn't include distribution lists—people must be invited individually. If you don't want people to forward the invite to others, turn off Allow Forwarding in the invitation. Please note that this option is not available for channel-based Teams meetings.
- Only me: Only the meeting organizer can bypass the lobby.
