How to manage Deadlines in the Course Information System

This page applies to Department Administrators and Registrar's Offices only.

Introduction

The Deadlines setting allows Department Administrators and Registrar's Offices to set when instructor submissions are due for each Module. Deadlines are informational and do not restrict instructors from submitting data past the deadline date. Instructors will see their submission deadlines on their home page as well as on each course's submission form.

Deadline Types and Requirements

There are different types of deadlines that can be configured, depending on your role in CIS. The submission deadline for a given course and module is determined by the most specific deadline available, in the order listed below.

Divisional Deadlines

The Divisional Deadline defines the date for when submissions are due for all courses in a division.

  • Divisional Deadlines are set per session and per module.
  • Divisional Deadlines are informational and do not restrict instructors from submitting data.
  • Divisional Deadlines apply to all courses within a division.
  • Module Dates must be defined for a given session and module in order to set the corresponding Divisional Deadline.
  • The Divisional Deadline for a given module must be within the corresponding Module Dates.
  • The Divisional Deadline for the Final Exam module may be the number days prior to the exam date, instead of a specific date.
Note: The exact deadline date for the Final Exam module may not be displayed to instructors until exam dates are available in CIS.

Departmental Deadlines

The Departmental Deadline defines the date for when submissions are due for all courses in a department.

  • Departmental Deadlines are set per session and per module.
  • Departmental Deadlines are informational and do not restrict instructors from submitting data.
  • Departmental Deadlines apply to all courses within a department.
  • Module Dates must be defined for a given session and module by your Registrar's Office, in order to set the corresponding Departmental Deadline.
  • The Departmental Deadline for a given module must be within the corresponding Divisional Deadline, if available, or Module Dates otherwise.
  • The Departmental Deadline for the Final Exam module may be the number days prior to the exam date, instead of a specific date.
Note: The exact deadline date for the Final Exam module may not be displayed to instructors until exam dates are available in CIS.

Deadline Overrides

The Deadline Override defines the date for when a submission is due for a single course or Course Group.

  • Deadline Overrides are set per session, per module, and per course.
  • Deadline Overrides are informational and do not restrict instructors from submitting data.
  • Deadline Overrides apply to a single course or Course Group.
  • Module Dates must be defined for a given session and module by the Registrar's Office, in order to set a Deadline Override.
