What is the Course Information System
Introduction
The Course Information System (CIS) is the University’s institutional course information system. It provides convenient, online services to support the administration of courses for instructors, departments, and faculty offices. CIS provides instructors with a streamlined way to:
- Assist with the creation of their course syllabus by providing tools to inform the development of their marking scheme as well as guidelines on faculty and institutional policy statements,
- Submit and duplicate final exam papers in a secure, online platform, and
- Provide administrative details regarding assessments for students writing with accommodations.

Modules
CIS is split into functional areas called Modules. The availability and contents of each module vary by division.
Syllabi Module
The Syllabi module allows an instructor to submit their course's marking scheme and syllabus to their department, while ensuring that Faculty and University policies and guidelines are met. The Syllabi module also provides important, high-level information regarding the course such as sessional dates, requisite information, and class meeting times and locations.
Syllabus Builder Module
The Syllabus Builder is a newly developed module that guides instructors through creating a full course syllabus in a flexible manner that allows for creative freedom while still offering insight to ensure that the appropriate institutional and divisional practices, policies, and guidelines are considered. The Syllabus Builder module is currently available for the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, Faculty of Arts & Science, and University of Toronto Scarborough.
Exam Details Module
The Exam Details module allows an instructor to submit logistical information relating to the administration of their course's final exam to their department, including scheduling, equipment, and supplies requirements.
Final Exam Module
The Final Exam module allows an instructor to submit their course's final exam, cover sheet, and printing instructions to their department.
