UTORvpn is UofT’s general VPN (virtual private network) service that provides a secure Internet connection, encrypting all of your Internet traffic and routing it through UofT. It uses the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
This service is available to active staff, faculty, librarians, and graduate students of UofT.
Use cases:
- Secure Internet browsing over potentially insecure networks such as public wifi
- Access to resources restricted to on-campus access, e.g. UTORGrouper
- Access to some departmental resources (check with the owning department whether access has been configured)
Not recommended for:
- Access to Administrative Systems (ROSI, AMS/SAP) – use AdminsysVPN instead
- Videoconferencing calls on Microsoft Teams, Bb Collaborate, Zoom, etc.
- Media streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, etc.
- Large downloads
This service is provided for your University-related work. Please be considerate of others also connecting to the VPN: try to minimize your Internet traffic where possible, and disconnect promptly when your work is completed.
