UTORvpn is the University of Toronto's VPN (virtual private network) solution. UTORvpn secures your Internet connection by encrypting your Internet traffic and routing it through the university's networks.

While connected to UTORvpn, your Internet traffic will appear as if it comes from the university. This lets you remotely access certain restricted systems (such as research journals or UTORGrouper) which normally require you to be on campus.

Requirements

To connect to UTORvpn, you'll need the following:

• A permanent (staff, faculty, librarian or student) or long-term guest UTORid
• The university's Cisco Secure Client package (https://uoft.me/cisco-vpn-download)
• Enrolment in UTORMFA

Recommended uses

UTORvpn should be used when you access University systems from off campus. It's also wise to use UTORvpn whenever you are connected to a potentially insecure network, such as public wi-fi.

UTORvpn does not provide access to restricted systems such as ROSI or AMS - AdminVPN serves this need. UTORvpn is also not recommended for videoconferencing, media streaming, large downloads, or other uses that involve a high rate of data transfer.

Please be considerate of others connecting to the VPN: try to minimize your Internet traffic where possible, and disconnect promptly when your work is completed.

Technical information

Outbound traffic from UTORvpn comes from the IP ranges 138.51.8.0/23 and 138.51.12.0/23.
