Share or create unique permissions for a folder

Share or create unique permissions for a folder

Sharing Link Method (recommended for external users)

  1. In a document library, select the folder to be shared.
  2. Select Share from the menu.

  1. In the Send link pop up, enter the user's email address and select which permissions they should have from the dropdown.

  1. Send the link.

Direct Access Method (recommended for internal users)

  1. In a document library, hover over the folder and right-click it. Select Manage access.
  2. In the right-hand pane, select the + beside Direct access.
  3. Enter the name of the individual or a SharePoint group.
    • To add multiple users, separate their names/addresses with a semi-colon beforehand and paste it in the field.
    • Select the pencil icon to choose the access level.
    • You can enter a message and check/uncheck Notify people to send a notification.
    • To further customize access, select Advanced (bottom right corner). Select Stop Inheriting Permissions (top left) > OK. This will make the library's permissions separate from the rest of the site. To reverse this, select Delete unique permissions > OK.
  4. Select Grant access.
    • If you're granting access to an external user who's system isn't on O365 or encounter an error, use the Share option in the Manage access pane.
    • To enable external sharing on the site, contact EASI SharePoint Support.

If you can't set up permissions, it may be due to lack of access. Contact the site owner or EASI SharePoint Support for assistance.

Removing access

No matter which method was used, follow these steps to remove access.

  1. In a document library, hover over the folder and right-click it. Select Manage access. You will see a list of users with access.
    • To see a detailed view of managing permissions, scroll down and select Advanced.
  2. To remove groups or individuals, select the pencil icon next to a group or individual > Stop sharing > Remove.
