Set up unique permissions on a SharePoint library

If you need a library with access that is restricted and separate from the rest of a SharePoint site, follow the below steps.

Note: Full control access or higher is needed. If you don't have the right access, contact the site owner/admin or EASI SharePoint Support for assistance.

  1. Click into the library.
  2. Select the gear icon (top right corner) > Library settings > More library settings > Permissions for this document library.
  3. Select Stop Inheriting Permissions (top left) > OK. This will make the library's permissions separate from the rest of the site.
      • To reverse this, select Delete unique permissions > OK.
Select Stop Inheriting Permissions to make a SharePoint library's permissions unique
  4. To remove a user/group's access from the library, check off the box to the left of their name. Select Remove User Permissions (top left) > OK.
Select Grant Permissions or Remove User Permissions to update a library's unique permissions
  5. To give a user/group's access to the library, select Grant Permissions (top left). In the pop-up, type out the name(s). Select Show Options to assign the level of access and if they should receive a notification. Select Share.
